This attractive specimen of the rare Jurassic Reineckeia anceps preserves a large, strongly ribbed ammonite prominently exposed in its original limestone matrix. The shell shows the bold, regular ribbing and broad, open coiling characteristic of the genus, with particularly good definition across much of the outer whorl.
The warm golden-brown coloration of the fossil contrasts nicely with the paler matrix, giving the piece excellent visual presence. A particularly appealing feature is the smaller ammonite preserved at the lower right, which adds both scientific interest and a pleasing sense of natural context. The irregular matrix has been left around the fossils rather than cut into a formal block, giving the specimen an attractive, field-collected appearance.
Multiple other small partial ammonite fossils are visible throughout the matrix.
